Crozet Physical Eduction

We are off to an incredible year in P.E. and it is great to connect once again with the wonderful students here at Crozet!  Welcome back to an fun filled school year where your child will learn the importance and benefits of daily exercise which is not only beneficial to their health but benefits them academically by boosting the brain’s function.  Your child will also learn social skills and sportsmanship in working together with their peers and treating each other with respect.  The importance of proper nutrition is encouraged and learning new and exciting activities/games to get them moving!!

It is hard to believe that another summer has come and gone and we are back in school.  We have been so impressed with the energy and enthusiasm the students have shown, as well, as their willingness to learn, move, and work their hardest for full fitness potential.

We are off to a dynamic start!  Our heights and weights are already completed and we are ready to begin fitness testing’s for our 4th and 5th graders as well as fitness games for everyone.  Students in kindergarten through second grade will be working hard to master their locomotor movements for the first marking period.  These movements include:  (run, gallop-kindergarten) jump (1st graders), and hop (2nd graders).

Dear Parents/Guardian:

It is hard to believe that the school year has almost ended, and summer vacation will soon be here.  Your child/children have had an extraordinary and rewarding year exercising and working to their best potential in P.E. class.  We encourage them to continue to be physically active during the summer break from the daily school-year routine.  Thank you for your help and support.

P.E. was in full swing this year.  Many of our classes took on new exciting activities and several classes were introduced and learned the value of pedometers, and how to cup stack.  Cup stacking is an exciting individual and team sport where children stack and un-stack twelve specially designed cups in predetermined sequences at lightning speed!  Cup stacking promotes hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, quickness and concentration-skills needed to excel in many activities and sports.  When students are cup stacking, they’re using both sides of their bodies and brains to develop skills necessary to dribble and shoot a basketball, throw and catch a baseball, play a musical instrument, type on a computer and more.  The climbing wall, jumping rope, running & striking skills, locomotor movements, pathways, learning and playing new games were highlighted this year.

As we know everyone benefits from regular physical activity - babies, children, and adults, the elderly, people with disabilities, and people with serious health conditions. Children need at least 60 minutes and adults need at least 30-60 minutes of daily physical activity a day on five or more days a week to be healthy. So we challenge each of you to make a commitment to become more physically active and to have a FUN-FILLED FIT summer.

Special congratulations to all of our Crozet 5th grade students who will be leaving us heading to middle school.  Best of luck!

Earth Day in Physical Education!

Fire, Trees, Water

Earth Tag

1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders had a visit from two professional tennis players.  The tennis players spoke to them about their 4-5 hour daily commitment to practicing and playing tennis. They also shared with our students the choices they make to eat healthy everyday (including drinking lots of water to stay hydrated) and to stretch and exercise to stay in shape for their tennis matches.

What are you going to do this Spring to stay active?

National Walking Day - April 2, 2014

Get Up and Move!
These days, adults are spending more time at work than ever before. An unfortunate side effect is that, as a nation, we're becoming more inactive. This is a problem when you consider that physical inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease!

But take heart! It's a problem you can help fix by encouraging your community and company to take part in the American Heart Association's National Walking Day.

On this day, Americans are encouraged to lace up their sneakers and take at least 30 minutes out of their day to get up and walk. It's a great way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to get your family, friends and co-workers started on a healthier way of life.
