The Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest is a co-educational youth basketball program sponsored by the Elks National Foundation. Highlighting the Elks commitment to America’s youth, the Hoop Shoot begins at the local level with Elks Lodges. From there, participants advance through district, state, and regional competitions. Of the millions of young people who participate and advance, six national champions are named—one boy and one girl from each of three age groups: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13. The winners of the national competition each receive a trophy and their names are inscribed on a plaque housed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Parents accompany contestants throughout each level of the competition. The parents of finalists at the state, regional and national levels attend the competitions as guests of the Elks.

We invited all Eagles from the ages of 8 to 13 to come Compete, Connect, and Succeed!

Congratulations to all our Crozet students on a fantastic first quarter from the Physical Education department!  We are excited for all the successes from the first nine weeks of school, and are eagerly awaiting the many more to come.  We have some amazing things coming up in the second quarter!  As reminder to all students that it is super important that you remember to wear you tennis shoes to Physical Education class every time!  Proper footwear allows you to move around safely, and allows you to move and exercise to your full ability.  Water bottles are also nice to have as a sure fire way to stay hydrated without missing any class time!

Ms. Laine was recognized for receiving the Shannon Foundation Grant to paint the United States map on our black top for P.E. activities!  We have finished the map and we have starting using it to get students moving while learning about Social Studies, Geography, directions, and colors.  Thank you Ms. Laine for putting in the hard work to apply for the grant and for all of the painting!

What a great time we have had thus far in P.E.  Kindergarten and 1st graders continue to work on their personal and spatial awareness.  Locomotor skills (walk, run, skip, gallop, jump, hop, leap, and slide) are practiced on a regular basis.   We move in various pathways each day and always try to include brain gym activities and integrating the core subjects.  Also, we have been focusing on soccer dribbling and kicking.  The 4th and 5th graders are completing their wellness testing!

Here is the announcement from QuickStart:

Building a QuickStart Tennis Pathway for Crozet ES

Going Bananas! at Crozet Elementary School
Now QCV is undertaking an ambitious plan to build four 36-foot QuickStart courts at CES and equip all kids in first, second and third grade with racquets and balls to keep.
CES Field of Tennis Dreams -- QCV hopes to turn the field in the northest corner of the school's 21-acre site into a tennis magnet for kids ages eight and under or anyone who wants to play tennis on 36-foot courts. The courts will complement the three 36-foot courts QCV had built at Claudius Crozet Park in June 2012.

We are off and running in Physical Education this year!  We have built great cooperative communities through a variety of team building games and challenges, and are ready to start working hard together.  Over the next few weeks we will be begin fitness testing with our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, and will be conducting height and weight with all students.  We are excited for the year ahead, and are already impressed with everyone’s willingness to move, laugh, grow, and learn!
